Welcome

Friends,

If current events have your attention, there is a lot to take note of. I am intentionally withholding commentary for the time being.

I want to stop today and write about how travel can bring us closer—and humanity needs it.

Let’s get going.

Happy Saturday!

Enjoy a shorter post with no links plus the respectful encouragement to enjoy time away from this screen. I am talking to myself here: go have a great weekend!

Story

It’s a big world out there.

And sometimes I wonder why we keep going. Not just in a literal sense, but in the deeper sense—why we feel the pull to leave home, to step into the unfamiliar, to take the next trip.

There’s a surface-level answer: we want to see new things. Eat different food. Change our scenery. Visit people we care about. But when I slow down, I’m reminded that the real reasons we travel go much deeper.

We travel to reconnect—with God, with ourselves, with the people we love, and even with complete strangers.

For me, travel makes space to hear more clearly. When I leave behind the familiar cadence of daily life, I often find it easier to be still—and in that stillness, to hear from God. The beauty of creation, the awe of something new, the smallness I feel when the sky stretches endlessly over a mountain or a sea—these are real reminders of how great God is, and how near.

We also travel to find ourselves again. Not in the self-help sense, but in the honest, unfiltered way that only comes when you’re sitting in a quiet café across the world or looking out a train window with no Wi-Fi. Travel reminds us of who we are when we’re not just being useful, productive, or busy.

We travel to grow closer to the people we love. A trip doesn’t fix everything, but shared adventure—getting lost, laughing really hard, waiting in a long line and making new friends along the way—draws us together. We collect memories that hold us long after the trip is over.

And then, there are the strangers: the uber drivers, the flight attendants, the fellow passengers. The ones we meet only for a moment. Sometimes, they’re the most lasting part. Because when you’re far from home and someone offers a kind word or a warm smile, you remember that (painfully cliché as it might read) we’re not so different after all.

Big Picture: We travel because we’re meant for connection. Not just with the world, but with the One who made it—and each other.

Happy flying.

Remember, this life you are living has meaning. Thank you for reading. I am grateful you are here and would love to hear from you. If you'd like to write me a note, simply reply to this email. Otherwise I'll see you in the next one.

Be well today. -Tommy

P.S. If I can ever help you plan your next travel adventure (slash help make your points go farther), I’d be delighted. You can schedule time together here.
